Here's a couple of new materials I made for a new biome we're working on for Subnautica: Below Zero, called the 'Glacial Basin'. These materials were made specifically to render in an older version of Unity, so they have a slightly different feel in-game, but here's a few fancy renders in Marmoset.
Ingame, these are used as triplanar materials on top of a glacier cliff sculpt done in Zbrush. One of these materials is for flatter areas, the other for deeper, rougher parts of the cliffs. We blend between the two using vertex colour in Max.
Materials in Subnautica tend to push towards slightly stylised but maintain a sense of realism.
Made entirely in Substance Designer.
